The book, Mr. Spencer's 29th publication, explores the deep-rooted causes of anti-Semitism and its resurgence, particularly after the October 7th Hamas attack on Israel. Spencer, director of Jihad Watch and a prolific writer on terrorism and Islamic extremism, discussed how anti-Semitic narratives persist due to societal conformity and historical misconceptions. He emphasized that Jewish identity, rooted in religious and cultural distinction, has often made Jewish communities targets of persecution. Highlighting historical Christian anti-Semitism, Spencer noted its contradictions with core Christian theology. He pointed out that modern Christian leaders, including the Pope and Orthodox patriarchs, have repudiated such views.

Mr. Spencer also addressed growing hostility towards pro-Israel voices in academia, citing the cancellation of his scheduled talk at UCLA due to campus opposition. Despite facing threats and criticism, he remains committed to exposing anti-Semitic rhetoric and advocating for historical accuracy. His new book seeks to counter misinformation and provide a factual basis for understanding anti-Semitism’s historical and ideological origins. Spencer’s work continues to challenge mainstream narratives and offer insights into contemporary global conflicts. Spencer further examined the historical and ideological underpinnings of anti-Semitism within Islam, highlighting the Quranic depiction of Jews as enemies of Muslims. He pointed out that Islamic texts and traditions have long fostered hostility toward Jews, refuting claims that anti-Semitism in the Muslim world only emerged due to Nazi influence.

Additionally, Mr. Spencer detailed the role of National Socialism - and International Socialism - in perpetuating anti-Semitism. He noted that both ideologies—despite their differences—framed Jews as an obstacle to their political visions, whether through racial or economic narratives. National Socialism targeted Jews as an "impure race," while Marxist doctrines associated them with capitalism, demanding their assimilation or elimination.

Mr. Spencer warned that all four forms of anti-Semitism—Christian, Islamic, National Socialist, and Marxist—are resurging today. He cited the rising influence of anti-Semitic voices across social and political spectrums, including Orthodox Christian circles, Islamist protests, neo-Nazi rhetoric, and leftist movements that conflate Jewish identity with political agendas.

Ultimately, Spencer's book underscores that anti-Semitism is not merely a historical phenomenon but an enduring ideological force that continues to threaten Jewish communities worldwide. He emphasizes the need to confront these narratives head-on and recognize the broader societal dangers they pose. 

The Blood Libel's Last Gasp: Why "The Passion" Still Hurts

In Roman history scholar, Prof. Nathanael Andrade's recent article, (adapted in JTA), rightly challenges the enduring myth of Jewish culpability in the death of Jesus. The scholar dismantles the historical inaccuracies and biased interpretations that have fueled centuries of antisemitism. It's a crucial intervention, yet the persistence of this libel, particularly in popular culture, demands constant vigilance. One need only look at Mel Gibson's "The Passion of the Christ" to see how these ancient prejudices continue to fester.

Gibson's film, released to both critical acclaim and fervent condemnation, purported to offer a historically accurate depiction of Jesus' final hours. However, its blatant manipulation of scripture, its graphic violence, and, most insidiously, its portrayal of Jews as bloodthirsty antagonists, served only to reinforce the very narratives that Dr. Andrade so effectively debunks.

The film leans heavily on extra-biblical traditions and embellishments, often presented as historical fact. The Sanhedrin is depicted as a monolithic entity, driven solely by malice towards Jesus. Individual Jews are shown sneering and demanding his crucifixion. This is a far cry from the complex socio-political landscape of Roman-occupied Judea. The Gospels themselves offer varying accounts, and even within those accounts, blame is far from universally assigned to the Jewish people.

But "The Passion's" most egregious offense lies in its perpetuation of the deicide charge – the accusation that the Jewish people are collectively responsible for the death of God. This charge has been the cornerstone of antisemitism for millennia, justifying persecution, pogroms, and even the Holocaust. To visually reinforce this accusation on the silver screen, with all the power of cinematic storytelling, is not just irresponsible, it's dangerous.

Moreover, the film conveniently omits or minimizes the role of the Roman authorities. Pontius Pilate, the Roman governor, is presented as a reluctant participant, almost sympathetic to Jesus' plight. This glosses over the brutal reality of Roman rule and the empire's history of crushing dissent. It's crucial to remember that Jesus was executed by the Romans, for what they perceived as sedition – a direct threat to their authority.

Fortunately, voices have emerged to challenge this harmful narrative. Scholars Jeremy Cohen and Andrade's work is vital, but so too are visual resources that offer alternative interpretations. Here are a few examples that challenge the Church's historical narrative:

• Antisemitism Uncovered Video: Myth of Deicide: Many YouTube channels offer theological and historical analyses that dismantle the deicide charge, highlighting the Roman role and the complexities of the Gospel accounts. Search for videos addressing "deicide myth" or "who killed Jesus."

• The Passion of the Christ - (Renegade Cut): Several film critics and theologians have produced video essays analyzing the antisemitic tropes present in Mel Gibson's film. Search for "The Passion of the Christ anti-Semitism" on YouTube or Vimeo.

• Jews & Christians: A Journey of Faith | Abrahamic Religions Documentary: Documentaries exploring the historical relationship between Judaism and Christianity can offer valuable context and challenge prejudiced assumptions.

It is our responsibility, as Jews, to actively combat the persistent myth of Jewish culpability in the death of Jesus. By engaging with scholarly work, critically analyzing popular culture, and promoting alternative narratives, we can help to dismantle the structures of antisemitism and build a more just and equitable world. "The Passion" may be a film, but its legacy of hate lingers on, and we must be vigilant in confronting it.

Purim celebrates the deliverance of the Jews of ancient Persia by Mordechai and Esther—two Jews who thwarted the genocidal intentions of the Persian prime minister Haman through their courage, daring and strategic genius.

Today’s Persians running Iran’s Islamic revolutionary regime consistently declare their intention to annihilate Israel and are steadily building the capacity for nuclear weapons to achieve that infernal aim.

Netanyahu warned this week that, just as “another Persian villain” tried and failed to destroy the Jewish people, so too would Iran’s “delusional regime” be prevented from attaining nuclear weapons.

But there’s another unsettling analogy to be made here. For the story of Purim tells us about the extreme perilousness of the Jews of the Diaspora who are inescapably vulnerable to never-ending attack.

Currently, the Western world is convulsing in a pandemic of brazen anti-Semitism, which draws upon imagery and tropes from early Christian theology, Nazi and Communist ideology and the modern variant of Jew-hatred, liberal universalist dogma that portrays Israel as a devil state.

In America, comedian Michael Che promoted the Israel vaccine libel by quipping on the NBC show “Saturday Night Live”: “Israel is reporting that they vaccinated half of their population. I’m going to guess it’s the Jewish half.”

In Britain, a Bristol university lecturer and pro-Palestinian Jewish-conspiracy theorist, David Miller, issued a diatribe last weekend in which he called for the “end” of Zionism as a “functioning ideology of the world.”

He launched a direct attack on Jewish students, claiming that they were “being used as political pawns by a violent, racist foreign regime engaged in ethnic cleansing,” and that Arab students on campus were unsafe as a result.

Outraged calls to sack both Miller and Che have predictably prompted their supporters to criticize as hypocrites those who condemn “cancel culture” while calling for these individuals to be canceled.

Anti-Semitism, though, is unique. It doesn’t just provoke contempt, fear or hatred. It presents Jews as uniquely evil and powerful, a global conspiracy to promote their own interests at the expense of everyone else. And the correct response to evil is to eradicate it.

Anti-Semitism is therefore innately deranged, dangerous and even murderous, unlike prejudice against any other group, people or cause.

After the Holocaust, it went underground in horror and shame, but in recent decades that social control has disappeared. This is largely because of the Marxist takeover of the left and its agenda of cultural revolution.

Anti-Semitism has thus been seeded throughout the West by Palestinianism, Islamism, black power and the left-wing “intersectionality” agenda, all making common cause with far-right anti-Semites who in numeric terms have been overwhelmingly eclipsed.

Moreover, it infuses Western culture itself. Among countless numbers of people, their only knowledge of Jews is drawn from such hateful and stereotypical figures as Fagin or Shylock. Many of the West’s greatest literary, philosophical and artistic figures were profound anti-Semites.

Clearly, though, these cannot and should not be banned. A difficult and careful line must be drawn.

Anti-Defamation League denounces U.S. Amb to Belgium Gutman remarks attributing Muslim anti-Semitism to Israel-Palestine

US Ambassador to Belgium, Howard Gutman, at a conference hosted by the European Jewish Union (EJU) in Brussels, Belgium, made a statement saying that there were two types of anti-Semitism: traditional anti-Jewish prejudice and a distinct strain stemming from the on-going Israeli-Palestinian conflict. The White House quickly clarified that the US condemns all forms of anti-Semitism, and Gutman expressed his regret that his comments had been misinterpreted.


In a letter to Ambassador Howard W. Gutman, Anti-Defamation League's National Director, Abraham H. Foxman called Amb. Gutman's remark "wrongheaded" and said that it "provides an unacceptable rationale for inaction" against anti-Semitism. "This assessment of Muslim anti-Semitism, and your attempt to distinguish it from traditional or classical anti-Semitism, is not only wrongheaded but could undermine the important effort to combat the resurgence of anti-Semitism in Europe," wrote Mr. Foxman. "When one tries to attribute this anti-Semitism to outside forces – in this case the ongoing Arab-Israeli conflict – one not only misunderstands the role of anti-Semitism in that conflict, but provides an unacceptable rationale for inaction."

Mr. Foxman added, "Anti-Semitism, indeed Muslim anti-Semitism, was alive and well before the creation of Israel. Indeed, the extreme reaction to an independent Jewish state to this day in the Muslim world is connected to anti-Jewish attitudes that persisted for centuries. If the problem was that the Middle East conflict was coming to Europe, then Europe would be seeing attacks on Muslims by Jews, as well as Muslim attacks on Jews. Of course, there are no attacks by Jews against Muslims."

The League said that while it recognized his effort to provide an analysis of the new forms of anti-Semitism and to grapple with an issue close to his heart, the ambassador needed to "avoid characterizations that contradict efforts by the U.S. to dispel the notion that anti-Semitism could be rationalized in any way as an outlet for frustration with Israel or the Israeli-Palestinian conflict."

Anti-Semitism incidents report reveals imperative for more effective management, solutions

ADL Audit avoids web anti-Semitism. Some state levels down only in comparison to Gaza War spikes in 2009. California up - leads nation. 

Following a consistent trend over the last several years, the number of anti-Semitic incidents in the United States remained constant in 2010, with a total of 1,239 incidents of assaults, vandalism and harassment reported during the calendar year, according to the Anti-Defamation League (ADL).

The ADL Audit of Anti-Semitic Incidents, released today, found that the number of anti-Semitic incidents increased slightly in 2010, to a total of 1,239 incidents, compared to 1,211 incidents reported in 2009.  It is the first increase reported by ADL since the numbers hit a record high in 2004, when the U.S. experienced 1,821 incidents of anti-Semitism.  Since 2004, the total number of anti-Jewish incidents had declined incrementally each year.

The ADL Audit tracks incidents of vandalism, harassment and physical assaults against Jewish individuals, property and community institutions across the U.S., using reports and data gathered by the League's 30 regional offices and law enforcement.

"While we have come a long way in society as Jews have been accepted into the mainstream, America is still not immune to anti-Semitism and bigotry," said Abraham H. Foxman, ADL National Director.  "The good news is that we have continued to enjoy a period of relative calm, where the overall numbers are mostly unchanged and the incidents isolated.  But the bad news is that for all our efforts to educate, to raise awareness and to legislate, anti-Jewish incidents remain a disturbing part of the American Jewish experience."

The 2010 ADL Audit identified:

• 22 physical assaults on Jewish individuals (down from 29 in 2009);
• 900 cases of anti-Semitic harassment, threats and events (up from 760 in 2009);
• 317 cases of anti-Semitic vandalism (down from 422 in 2009).

The 2010 Audit comprises data from 45 states and the District of Columbia, including official crime statistics as well as information provided to ADL's regional offices by victims, law enforcement officers and community leaders and members.  The Audit encompasses criminal acts, such as vandalism, violence and threats of violence, as well as non-criminal incidents of harassment and intimidation.

Majority of Incidents Concentrated in Handful of States

Continuing a longtime trend, the states with the highest totals were those with large Jewish populations.  The top four states were California, with 297 incidents in 2010, up from 275 in 2009; New York, with 205 incidents, down from 209; New Jersey, with 130 incidents, down from 132; and Florida, with 116 incidents, up from 90.

According to the ADL Audit, other states with double-digit totals in 2010 include Massachusetts (64, up from 55 in 2009); Pennsylvania (42, down from 65 in 2009); Colorado (38, up from 14); Connecticut (38, up from 24); and Texas (37, up from 28).

The Audit has never included, and does not now include, thousands of anti-Semitic events that have occurred in cyberspace. The Audit does not attempt to evaluate anti-Semitic Web sites, online groups, postings and comments. It does include anti-Semitic cyberbullying and harassing anti-Semitic email or postings when they target a specific private individual. It is intended to serve only as a barometer looking at one small piece of a larger societal problem.

"As a barometer of anti-Semitism in America, the Audit helps us to identify trends across the country and to take stock of how and where anti-Semitism is manifested," said Robert G. Sugarman, ADL National Chair.  "This information helps us to work with law enforcement and others in cities and communities to address the problem of hatred of Jews."

The Audit identifies both criminal and non-criminal acts of harassment and intimidation, including distribution of hate propaganda, threats and slurs.  Compiled using official crime statistics, as well as information provided by victims, law enforcement officers and community leaders and evaluated by ADL's professional staff, the Audit provides an annual snapshot of a nationwide problem while identifying possible trends or changes in the types of activity reported. This information assists ADL in developing and enhancing its programs to counter and prevent the spread of anti-Semitism and other forms of bigotry.

A 22-year-old Pennsylvania man pleaded guilty Tuesday in Pittsburgh to soliciting people to engage in acts of terrorism, including attacks on Jewish targets.

Emerson Winfield Begolly, of New Bethlehem, Pa., was an active administrator of an Islamic extremist internet forum that solicited jihadists to use firearms and explosives against police stations, post offices, Jewish schools and daycare centers, military facilities bridges and other targets.

"Jihadist propaganda on the Internet is a serious threat to our safety, and today's plea is the latest example of our Office's efforts to aggressively identify and prosecute homegrown terrorists," Neil MacBride, U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of Virginia, said.

Using the pseudonym Abu Nancy, Begolly used the Ansar al-Mujahideen English Forum to encourage followers to "write their legacy in blood." He applauded the shootings at military facilities throughout Northern

Virginia last October and even posted a manual on how to manufacture a bomb.

In early January of 2011, he assaulted FBI agents as they tried to stop him from pulling a gun, going as far as to biting agents on the fingers.

Begolly is scheduled to be sentenced on Nov. 29.

Hate-crimes committed 23 more times against Jews than against Muslims; How can we convey the severity of anti-Semitism vs Islamophobia?

A report released by the New York State Division of Criminal Justice Services concluded that hate crimes increased 14 percent in 2009, led by an increase in attacks on Jews and Jewish institutions. 683 hate crimes were reported to authorities across New York State in 2009, compared with 599 in 2008. Anti-Semitic incidents rose from 219 in 2008 to 251 in 2009, comprising 37 percent of reported incidents.

And yet we endlessly hear about "Islamophobia," as if Muslims were huddled in their homes, cowering in the darkness as roving bands of Islamophobes marauded outside, throttling any hapless Believers who dared to stray outside.  In reality, Jews are far more likely to be victimized in hate attacks -- and yet there is no hand-wringing, there are no official statements of outrage and solidarity, there are no seminars or webinars or earnest talking-head discussions about the rise in anti-Semitism.

Yet more evidence that the "rise in Islamophobia" theme that the mainstream media keeps returning to is just a shell game to divert attention from Islamic jihad violence and supremacism.

Despite all the progress made since the hatred of Jews started thousands of years ago, the last month of 2010 showed us just how far we still have to go.

Sites that perpetuate the old falsehoods of Jews controlling the banks and media should be overrun by statistics of how much Arab money has been invested in financial and communication institutions. Israel must invest a considerable amount of resources on this front. It’s a lot of work, but we are the only government whose sacred duty it is to combat anti-Semitism on the Web.

Sometimes the best way to tackle hate is through laughter, but in most cases Israel must be more serious in making the fight against anti-Semitism – in all these arenas – a national priority. The Jerusalem Post reports: 35-year-old man and 9-month pregnant wife wounded in South Hebron Hills shooting attack near Teneh Omarim 

A nine-month pregnant Israeli woman and her husband were wounded in a terror shooting on Route 60 in the West Bank Sunday evening 26 September. 

The two were hit while in their vehicle and managed to reach Soroka Hospital in Beersheba, where the woman underwent surgery for her wounds after giving birth by Cesarean section to a healthy baby boy.

FBI data: Hate-crimes target Jews 10-times more frequently than Muslims (rarely victims)

Hate crimes directed against Muslims remain relatively rare, (notwithstanding the notoriety gained by incidents such as recent vandalism at the Madera Islamic Center.

Jews, lesbians, gay men and Caucasians, among others, are all more frequently the target of hate crimes, FBI records show. Reported anti-Muslim crimes have declined over recent years, though they still exceed what occurred prior to the 9-11 terrorist attacks.

In 2008, 105 hate crime incidents against Muslims were reported nationwide. There were 10 times as many incidents that were recorded as anti-Jewish during the same year, the most recent for which figures are available.

Anti-Defamation League fundraiser honors Stephen Spielberg, attracting Hollywood elite

Beverly Hills (myFOXla.com) - Director-producer Steven Spielberg received the Anti-Defamation League's highest honor Wednesday night at a star-studded gala where he was presented with the Democratic Legacy Award.

The event was held at the Beverly Hilton Hotel.

The Anti-Defamation League was founded in 1913 to fight anti-Semitism through programs and services that counteract hatred, prejudice and bigotry, according to the organization's Web site.
