On a visit to Los Angeles to promote his book, "Ally," Israeli Amb. Michael Oren discussed the Democrat administration's treatment and often, mistreatment of Israel, despite its professing "no daylight" between the two countries. Elliott Abrams reviewed the book in Commentary, entitled "The Ally that Wasn't'- Michael Oren memoir blasts Barack Obama, but pulls its punches elsewhere." 

The first thing to say about the book is that it should not have been published—not before January 2017, that is. Oren writes about Netanyahu, Obama, and many other people who are still in power, and he writes about issues and problems over which they are still fighting. . . . But to judge it on its own terms, Ally is very well written, engaging, and enormously interesting.

The Memorandum of Understanding signed by the American and Israeli Governments is a good first step, but there is much more to be done. A Trump Administration will ensure that Israel receives maximum military, strategic and tactical cooperation from the United States, and the MOU will not limit the support that we give. Further, Congress will not be limited to give support greater than that provided by the MOU if it chooses to do so. Israel and the United States benefit tremendously from what each country brings to the table – the relationship is a two way street.

The U.S. should veto any United Nations votes that unfairly single out Israel and will work in international institutions and forums, including in our relations with the European Union, to oppose efforts to delegitimize Israel, impose discriminatory double standards against Israel, or to impose special labeling requirements on Israeli products or boycotts on Israeli goods. The U.S. should cut off funds for the UN Human Rights Council, a body dominated by countries presently run by dictatorships that seems solely devoted to slandering the Jewish State. UNESCO’s attempt to disconnect the State of Israel from Jerusalem is a one-sided attempt to ignore Israel’s 3,000-year bond to its capital city, and is further evidence of the enormous anti-Israel bias of the United Nations. The U.S. should view the effort to boycott, divest from, and sanction (BDS) Israel as inherently anti-Semitic and take strong measures, both diplomatic and legislative, to thwart actions that are intended to limit commercial relations with Israel, or persons or entities doing business in Israeli areas, in a discriminatory manner. The BDS movement is just another attempt by the Palestinians to avoid having to commit to a peaceful coexistence with Israel. The false notion that Israel is an occupier should be rejected. The Trump administration will ask the Justice Department to investigate coordinated attempts on college campuses to intimidate students who support Israel.

Every presidential election produces a series of articles probing and prophesizing about the so-called “Jewish vote.” This year has been no different, with most observers agreeing that the majority of Jewish-Americans will vote Democratic.

Why are the ballots cast by Jewish-Americans, just 2 percent of the population, of such importance to politicians (and would-be politicians)? First, relative to their community’s small size, Jews contribute a disproportionate amount of money to political candidates and causes. They give half of the funds received by the Democratic Party and one quarter of the funds received by the Republican Party, according to American history professor Gil Troy. Second, many Jews live in the swing states of Florida (846,700 of 19.9 million), Pennsylvania (324,700 of 12.8 million), Ohio (173,700 of 11.6 million), and Michigan (105,200 of 9.9 million). And third, Jews tout a stellar turnout record—80 percent, on the word of several sources.

Indeed, the Pew Research Center’s landmark 2013 survey, “A Portrait of Jewish-Americans,” found that caring about Israel was vital to Jewish identity for approximately half of Jews aged 65 and older. By contrast, only about a third of Jews under the age of 30 expressed that same sentiment. It’s also estimated that Jews constitute at least 20 percent of the Boycott, Divestment, and Sanctions Movement. And take what you will from this: American Jewry was virtually split down the middle over the Iran nuclear deal. Perhaps more strikingly, Jewish support for the deal was 20 percentage points higher than for Americans overall.  Read More.

President Obama's re-election proves once again that no matter how badly a Democrat acts against the Jews' interests, they'll still keep voting for him anyway

With a list of swing states painted blue as the vote count proceeded, Obama’s Democratic victory was clinched with narrow predicted victories in the battleground states of Florida and Ohio, both with significant Jewish populations.

Obama cemented his win by keeping a firm grip on the Democratic base, including Jewish liberals, along with a massive victory among African Americans and a huge win among Latinos.

Jewish Republicans have conducted their largest ever mobilization of activists and of funds, arguing that Obama, now poised to enter his second term in the White House, would maintain an unfriendly attitude toward Israel. The results of this massive Republican effort, according to exit polls conducted on election day, are mixed.

The early data indicates that 70% of Jewish voters chose Barack Obama, a slight decline compared to the 2008 election in which Obama won 74% of the vote according to a compilation of national and local exit polls. (Republicans maintain that Obama’s showing last night among Jewish voters should be compared to his national exit poll outcome in 2008 which was 78%.) Either way, the polls reflect some decline in the support of Jewish voters for the Democrats.

Florida, one of three key swing states that determined the election and the prime target of Republican and Democratic Jewish outreach effort, seemed to have been a bit more receptive to the Republican message, with 34% of Jewish voters, according to exit polls, voting Romney. Still, the heavily Jewish populated counties of Broward, Palm Beach and Miami-Dade, voted heavily toward Obama, accounting for his narrow lead in the state.

In contrast, you will recall that last week I reported that American Jews living in Israel voted for Romney over Obama 85-14%. Are American Jews and Israeli Jews out of touch with each other?

I don't believe that American and Israeli Jews are out of touch with each other. I don't have the numbers to prove this yet, but my guess is that the Orthodox Jewish numbers in the US will be very close to those Israeli numbers. That's partly because most American Jews who move to Israel are Orthodox, and partly because American Jews, like their Israeli counterparts, make Israel, rather than abortion rights or gay marriage, their top concern.

What Israel might need to work on is convincing American Jews of the importance of supporting Israel. That may sound surreal 64 years after the Jewish state declared its independence, but as the Holocaust recedes into memory, the younger generation just doesn't see the importance of a Jewish state. And that's partly because many of them have a very weak sense of Jewish identification. They've never been to Israel, and they've probably not had a whole lot of Jewish education.

Alternatively, we can wait around for most of the uncommitted Jews to intermarry and then the remaining Jewish vote will be strongly pro-Israel and, if current trends continue, more Republican. That seems to be what's happening anyway.

Two columnists from The Jerusalem Post, Martin Sherman and Caroline Glick (and one US syndicated columnist and radio host) contend that re-electing Barack Obama is antithetical to pro-Israel values, but also to Jewish-American values.

Israel aside, the unquestioning, almost Pavlovian, suport US Jews give Obama is inconsistent with their values and incompatible with their welfare.

As I have stated previously, I am not among the most strident critics of Barack Obama. Indeed, I find some of the vitriol directed against him by some of his more radical detractors both tasteless and baseless.

That said, I am convinced that his reelection is liable to be a calamity of epic proportions — with incalculable, probably irreversible, repercussions for US interests, both at home and abroad (at least as they have been traditionally perceived), and for those of its longstanding allies — particularly Israel. 

After four years and $5 trillion dollars, since the inspiring 2008 rallying call of “Hope and Change,” all the American people have been left with is changes that have failed and hopes that have faded.

For 70% of American Jews, party loyalty trumps all of their conceivable rational interests.

Obama’s economic policies have taken a huge toll on the economic fortunes of American Jews who invest disproportionately in the stock market. His nationalization of the college loan business has given universities impetus to raise tuition rates still further, thus dooming more young American Jews to start their adult lives under a mountain of debt. And it isn’t at all clear how they will be able to pay off this debt since under Obama half of recent college graduates cannot find jobs 

Obama’s gutting of Medicare to pay for Obamacare has harmed the medical choices for older Jewish Americans. His war on tax deductions for charitable contributions has placed synagogues, Jewish schools and nursing homes in financial jeopardy. 

So with economics ruled out as a reason to support Obama we are left with American-Jewish values. But is Obama really advancing those values? 

What are those values anyway? Well, there’s civil liberties. American Jews like those. But Obama doesn’t. Take freedom of speech. Obama is the most hostile president to freedom of speech in recent memory. He has advocated implementing the so-called “fairness doctrine” for radio to stifle the free speech of his political opponents on talk radio. 

He has sought to undermine the freedom of the Internet through federal regulations and intimidation of Internet companies such as Google. He has made repeated and outspoken attempts to intimidate individuals, groups and businesses including Google to bar freedom of speech as relates to criticism of Islam. He has purged the lexicon of the federal government of all terms necessary to describe jihad, Islamic radicalism and terrorism, and so made it impossible for federal employees to examine, investigate, discuss or understand the nature of the greatest national security threat facing the US.

Jewish support for Mitt Romney growing. Informed couple explain why prefer Romney to manage the next 4-years

Jewish support for Obama has been slipping recently. A tracking poll published Thursday by TIPP for Investors' Business Daily shows the hard-to-believe statistic of 44% support for Mitt Romney among likely Jewish voters, versus 40% for Obama, with 16% undecided.

In September, the TIPP poll gave him 59% versus 35% for Romney. That in itself was seen as quite an accomplishment for Romney. It was not far from the 40 percent number in support of Dwight Eisenhower recorded by Jews in 1956, which was the highest backing by Jews for a Republican in nearly a century.

Israel National News reported today, "Netanyahu to Demand Obama Commit to Military Action in Iran."  Prime Minister Netanyahu will demand that President Barack Obama commit to a strike on Iran if sanctions fail, say sources.

Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu will press U.S. President Barack Obama for an explicit threat of military action against Iran if sanctions fail and Tehran's nuclear program advances beyond specified “red lines,” it was reported on Thursday. 

According to the British Guardian, Netanyahu is expected to raise the issue during his meeting on Monday at the White House with Obama. 

The report quoted diplomats as having said that Israel is angered by the Obama administration's public disparaging of early military action against Iran, saying that it weakens the prospect of Tehran taking the warnings from Israel seriously. 

While the two sides are attempting to agree on a joint public statement to paper over the divide, the Guardian noted, the talks will not be made easier by a deepening distrust in which the Israelis question Obama's commitment to confront Iran. 

One diplomatic source was quoted as having told the Guardian that Netanyahu and Obama “are poles apart.”

Jewish Conservative activist, Andrew Breitbart, believed that Pres. Barack Obama, under the anti-Israelist tutelage of Orientalist Prof. Edward Said, can not be trusted to provide security for the Jewish state of Israel. In June, 2011, Mr. Breitbart told JooTube that the pro-Palestinian / anti-Israelist academic and political culture Mr. Obama was indoctrinated in manifests in Obama's harsh treatment of Israel and its Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

Andrew Breitbart: The body-language of Obama sitting next to Netanyahu showed... you can tell the disgust that Barack Obama had towards Netanyahu- that this is an enemy of his, not just a visiting dignitary. And this is why (even though I've been against the birthers, saying stop it, guys) I have been a "course-er"- I believe that we need to see what classes he took when he was at Columbia and Occidental- and I think that you're going to see that Edward Said played an important role in his educational background. I think that the missing Los Angeles Times video of Rashid Khalidi, who is a pro-Palestinian professor- where clearly Barack Obama praised this man.

The American media does not want you to see - especially since the American media is covering up so that Jewish liberals will see, that we voted the most anti-Israel, most anti-Jew person in the history of this country - and that they knew that he had to get through that group of people, that donor base (I would call them my bretheren, I'm Jewish) the dumb, liberal Jews who can't figure out that this guy does not have Israel in his interests. It's so clear. Why is the L.A. Times hiding the Rashid Khalidi tape? It's now more than ever- we need to see what's on the Khalidi tape. And his grades. Edward Said is dead. But there is a hard-core leftist, anti-Israel bent that I saw with my own eyes after 9/11 at the Federal Building - shut down 2 lanes of traffic. Not only was there anti-Americanism from the organized left - from the professors, from the hard-left- it was also against Israel. The day that we were hit the hardest by a purely villainous group of people, these people were trying to figure out how this could be turned against Israel, how this could be turned against America. And I believe that Barack Obama sits right in the center- of the epicenter of that leftist philosophy. I am not religious, but the conservative Christians of this country have Israel's back. Without them, Israel would be up shit's creek. And the very idea that liberal Jews side with a Barack Obama, side with a Rashid Khalidi, side with an Edward Said ... it is a suicidal pact for the sake of- I don't even know - what are you getting in return? Nothing.

Breitbart: I want to see the percentage of people who are either suicidal or scientifically-proveably stupid. Because of their support of Barack Obama and being liberal-Jew Zionists. It's suicide or stupidity- it's either one or the other. Theses people, the organized left, the professors in the Humanities Departments on campus have been anti-Israel. We've been brainwashing our kids in this Rashid Khalidi / Edward Said, Orientalism bullshit for too long.

And all you have to do is look at the transcripts and you see these people do not have democracy at heart- they don't see a future of co-existence... they are a warring faction who want Israel dead! Question: Are you concerned about Islamists infiltrating this administration? Breitbart: Absolutely, because there is no transparency with this group of people. Fact-checking Obama's solicitation to 900 congregational rabbis pre-High Holy Days

Barack Obama held a conference call this week with more than 900 rabbis (does the Obama campaign do anything that is not on a grandiose scale?) to extend greetings to them and their congregants ahead of Rosh Hashanah, the Jewish New Year. I am unaware if he has ever held such a conference call before but he is in a tight Presidential race with the Jewish vote playing a key role in several battleground states. Many in the community have concerns about Barack Obama's support for Israel and the sincerity of the statements he has made on the campaign trail. Here is a quick fact-check after his latest expression of support for Israel:

He had this to say on the call:

It's important "to recognize that throughout my career in the State Legislature and now in the U.S. Senate, I have been a stalwart friend of Israel," said Obama. "On every single issue related to Israel's security, I have been unwavering, and will continue to be unwavering."
