Are Jewish composers of classic Christmas songs resented by Christians?

Darlene Love fronts Saturday Night Live's, Rob Smigel's Phil Spector-esque, "Rudolph the Red-nosed Reindeer-style music video," from Saturday TV Funhouse - "Christmas-time for the Jews"

Since Bing Crosby crooned Irving Berlin's "White Christmas" in 1941, Jewish songwriters and singers have played an integral role in the creation of new Christmas music year in and year out.

Writer Nate Bloom has run down the roster of classic Christmas songs written or co-written by Jews for the Judaic website Interfaithfamily.com, and beyond "White Christmas," the list includes "Winter Wonderland," "The Christmas Song (Chestnuts Roasting on an Open Fire)," "I'll Be Home for Christmas," "Sleigh Ride," "Let It Snow! Let It Snow! Let It Snow!," Johnny Marks' "Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer," "Rockin' Around the Christmas Tree," and "A Holly Jolly Christmas," among dozens of others. Books have been written on the topic as well. (L.A. Times)

Nate Bloom addresses Christian-voiced dis-satisfaction with this news:
"This year, two op-ed pieces have directed attention back to Jewish writers of Christmas songs. First, Michael Feinstein, a singer and pianist who works to keep the songs of the Great American Songbook alive, wrote "Whose Christmas Is It?" for the New York Times. At a recent Christmas concert, the board of the orchestra with whom he was singing complained that Feinstein's program was "too Jewish," because the singer had mentioned the Jewish background of some of the songwriters. His reflective article contains more information about which Jewish songwriters did not write Christmas songs, and why.  ...
In a spasm of curmudgeonly upset over a revised version of "Silent Night" he encountered in a Unitarian Universalist Church in Cambridge, Mass., Keilor took it on himself to insult Unitarian beliefs in a more comprehensive way, and while he was at it, to complain about:
...all those lousy holiday songs by Jewish guys that trash up the malls every year, Rudolph and the chestnuts and the rest of that dreck. Did one of our guys write "Grab your loafers, come along if you wanna, and we'll blow that shofar for Rosh Hashanah"? No, we didn't. Christmas is a Christian holiday - if you're not in the club, then buzz off.
Not sure what this has to do with one church's rendition of "Silent Night," which, though rumors have floated around about it, was not written by a Jew. Perhaps the culture wars are not quite over. Happy holidays, Mr. Keillor. (IFF's editor is hoping for the loafers/shofar song to get wide airplay in September--though with that kind of slant rhyme, Keillor is clearly no Irving Berlin)."

Jewish Survival: Sderot yeshiva adapts kassam rockets into Chanukah Menorah

(By Aaron Klein) – Jewish residents of a rocket-battered city outside the Gaza Strip every day this week lit a Hanukkah menorah fashioned out of hollowed Palestinian Qassam rockets that had been shot at their town.

"This is a symbol to our enemies that despite thousands of rockets fired at Sderot, our spirit has not broken. We are here to stay," said Josh Hasten, spokesman for Yeshiva Hesder Sderot, a Jewish school that combines Torah study with army service.

Since the start of Hanukkah last Friday, the Yeshiva has been lighting a menorah on the roof of its building made of Qassam rockets obtained from a local police station that had collected the fallen projectiles. The menorah is visible from most of Sderot. (World Net Daily)  (Photo: Police Chief of Sderot Shimon Nachmani lights Kassam menorah candles atop Hesder Yeshiva)

Deputy Foreign Minister Danny Ayalon publishes Arabic letter to Arab world: "Israel extends its hand in peace"

Deputy Foreign Minister Danny Ayalon (Yisrael Beitenu) published the following op-ed in pan-Arab newspaper a-Sharq Alawsat on Tuesday:  "Israel extends its hand in peace"

... The Iranian regime has many tentacles spread out across the region sowing destruction and despair amongst the people. The enemy of the people of Lebanon is not Israel, but Hizbullah. The enemy of the Palestinian people is not Israel, but Hamas. The enemy of the Egyptian people is not Israel, but militant Islamist opposition groups. All of these groups, and many others, receive their commands from Iran, who wish to control and suppress any aspirations the region has towards freedom and advancement.

Iran seeks to hold an entire region, including its own people, to ransom and keep it engaged in conflicts orchestrated and directed from Tehran. Whether it is in Morocco, Iraq or Yemen, Iran is constantly interfering with Arab sovereignty for their own nefarious gain. Israel and its Sunni neighbors alike are in the sights of Khameini, Ahmadinejad and their minions.

If Iran is able to attain nuclear weapons, the situation becomes inexplicably and inexorably worse. The Iranian regime has demonstrated that if feels unrestricted in its ability to dominate our region, a nuclear umbrella will only embolden its acolytes to act unrestrained to the detriment of us all. Only together can we face this threat and remove it. ...

Jewish news-website twice hijacked and desecrated by Turkish Muslim hackers

A self-identified Turkish Muslim returned for the second week in a row Saturday night to hack the popular Five Towns Jewish Times newspaper website. Readers of the site were met with a picture of the Statue of Liberty holding a Muslim holy book (likely the Koran) dressed in a burka, the Moslem robe that covers the body.

Saturday evening on December 12th, readers attempting to access the site saw images of burning Israeli flags and a video demonizing former Prime Minister Ariel Sharon.

The hacker, calling himself Seyhul-isLam, posted the following message to the website. “The punishment of those who wage war against Allah and His Messenger, and strive with might and main for mischief through the land is: execution, or crucifixion, or the cutting off of hands and feet from opposite sides, or exile from the land: that is their disgrace in this world, and a heavy punishment is theirs in the Hereafter [Al-Maida: 33] Allahu Akbar!!!”

Newspaper staff were still reposting content damaged in last week’s attack when the when the website was taken down for the second time, according to its Israeli correspondent Samuel Sokol. He noted, “The internet has increasingly become a battleground in both the Arab-Israeli conflict and the war against terror. In 2008, a Muslim hacker posted an anti-Semitic message on the website of the Bank of Israel, stating ‘Listen to me Jews - you are a nation whose fate has been decreed… we will kick you out. Millions of young Muslims are ready to die for the sake of Al-Quds [Jerusalem]...’

“In 2006, a Moroccan group calling itself ‘Team Evil’ hacked over 750 Israeli websites over a period of several hours in response to IDF operations in the Gaza Strip following the kidnapping of IDF Corporal Gilad Shalit.” (from Israel National News' Tzvi ben Gedalyahu)

Arab Muslim columnist abu Toameh chides Hamas' double-standards on desecrations

While Jewish West Banker's vandalized a
mosque in Yasuf as "pay-back" for Jewish
construction concessions to the P.A.,
Palestinian Khaled abu Toameh wonders,
"Where were the Palestinians when ..." in Hudson Institute.

"Condemnations for the (West Bank) Yasuf arson have come from across the political spectrum in Israel. The Israeli president, prime minister, defense minister, religious and secular leaders and even some settler figures were among those who publicly condemned the desecration of the mosque.

Ironically, the Israeli media seemed to be much more interested in the incident than the Palestinian media. At one point, it appeared as if the number of statements of condemnation coming out of the Jewish state exceeded the number of denunciations issued by Arab and Islamic governments and parties.

While Fatah and Hamas have been complaining and crying over the past week about the torching of a mosque in the West Bank village of Yasuf -- an act allegedly carried out by extremist Jewish settlers – where were Hamas and Fatah when Palestinians set fire to and damaged synagogues in Gush Katif following the IDF pullout from the Gaza Strip in the summer of 2005? Where were Hamas and Fatah when Palestinians repeatedly set fire to Joseph’s Tomb in Nablus over the past decade?

Of course arson is a despicable and abhorrent assault on a holy site that requires all those who care about coexistence, peace and tolerance in the Middle East to strongly condemn it, and there should be no justification for any attack on any holy site, be it a mosque, church or synagogue.

But those who remain silent or condone attacks on other people’s holy sites and religious symbols should be the last to raise their voices when a mosque is vandalized.

Similarly, those who have denied other people’s religious and historic ties to holy sites and lands should also keep their mouths shut.

Why hasn’t any Palestinian party of leader ever condemned acts of vandalism against Jewish cemeteries? Where were they each time a Jewish worshipper was stabbed or killed while on his way to a yeshiva, the Wailing Wall or the Tomb of the Patriarchs in Hebron? How come we didn’t hear the voices of Hamas and Fatah when Palestinians hurled stones at Jewish worshippers visiting Joshua’s Tomb in a village in the northern West Bank?

And where were Hamas and Fatah when Palestinian demonstrators repeatedly hurled firebombs and stones at Rachel’s Tomb in Bethlehem [a site which even Muslims consider to be holy, referring to it as the Bila bin Rabah Mosque]?"

Events from Stand With Us unite experts with community to enlighten pro-Israel advocates

"Stand with Us," a grassroots, pro-Israel advocacy group headquartered in Los Angeles, is hosting the second of two, major advocacy community events within 3-weeks of each other.

On the weekend of Nov 13-15, the group organized an "Israel in Focus" seminar. College students attended a Friday through Sunday seminar in the Pico-Robertson area of L.A.  On Sunday, the same lecturers gave a one-day, concentrated Community Conference.

Elliot Chodoff spoke on "Israel's Strategic Threats." Itamar Marcus of Palestinian Media Watch showed incitement on Palestinian government TV channels. Activist Mrs. Roberta Seid presented a lecture entitled "Israel 101."  British emigrant to Israel, Neil Lazarus, taught effective argument techniques against Israel-detractors. Marketing consultant David Suissa lectured on how to bring an "Israeli Voice to Your Community." Stand with Us' publicist, Jennifer Kutner, shuttled Muslim Arab journalist, Khaled abu Toameh, who writes for the Jerusalem Post, between the academic and community conferences.

Mr. Abu Toameh, challenged the intentions of Muslim and leftist protestors who consider themselves pro-Palestinian - contending that they are more accurately, anti-Israel.  David Suissa characterizes his positions in the Jewish Journal:
Toameh thinks it is in the interest of the Palestinians to stop incitement, and he shared an Arab perspective on the subject.

“Look at the language that is now flying back and forth between Hamas and Fatah,” he said. “It’s the same poison you hear about the Jews: sons of pigs, infidels, etc. Incitement has spread and backfired on the Palestinians.”

This incitement has also hurt the Palestinians’ ability to make peace: “How do you tell people to make peace with the people you’ve called monsters and sons of pigs?”

Toameh sees no hope in the “top down” approach to peace. The soil is too rotten, he says. The Arab moderates have been undermined. “If I go to Ramallah and talk about Palestinian concessions on the right of return, I’ll get shot in five minutes.”

He says the Palestinians “already got their two-state solution — Gaza and the West Bank,” and if it weren’t for the Israeli presence in the West Bank, “Hamas would take over and Mahmoud Abbas would be lynched.”

Harvard Law Professor Alan Dershowitz will give the keynote address at this year's Stand with Us "Festival of Lights" event being held Sunday, December 6th.

Most important pro-Israel events in L.A. have Joo-Tube cover them.  Last year, outgoing Israeli Ambassador to the U.N. Dan Gillerman gave the Festival attendees optimistic perspectives looking back and looking forward on the evolving situation - covered in this Joo-Tube article

Stand With Us' Festival of Lights - Israel U.N. Amb Dan Gillerman offers insights from 6-years inside the U.N.

"Can Muslim middle-east overcome bigotry towards Jewish Israel to thwart imperialist Iran?" Israeli UN Amb. Dan Gillerman asks Stand With Us' Festival of Lights.

"Ambassador Dan Gillerman professes optimism that the threats from imperialist Iran might motivate the Arab world to unite with Israel. He declares that Islamic militantism is as great a threat to moderate Muslims as it is to the general public - yet the Muslim world is not adequately routing-out militantism from its midst - to everyone's peril."

Requesting entry for a "medical purpose," Muslim Arab woman, 25, uses 2nd knife to stab young Israeli security guard at checkpoint

A 25 year old Palestinian woman was sent to stab an Israeli soldier in a border check point. The woman was sent by a terrorist organization called Hamas, who are infamous for using woman and children as human shields, and as tools for terrorist attacks.

In other cases, children as young as 10 years old were sent to the border with bombs attached under their shirts. This woman asked to enter Israel to seek medical attention. After a knife was found in her bag, the security officer went inside to check the bag. The woman then pulled out a second knife and stabbed a second security officer in the ribs.

Kristallnacht: Rabbi Yitzchok Adlerstein retells his mother's experience of the night that organized hostility against Jewish symbols began

The Simon Wiesenthal Center commemorated the 71's anniversary of
Germany's "Night of Breaking Glass" or Kristallnacht with an event at
the Museum of Tolerance in Los Angeles featuring author of
"Hitler's Willing Executioners," Harvard Prof. Daniel Goldhagen.
Rabbi Yitzchok Adlerstein, the son of a Holocaust survivor

(and the Wiesenthal Center's Director of Interfaith Affairs)
began the evening by retelling his mother's testimonial of the events
of the night of 9 November 1938. He then offered a prayer, in Hebrew,
to the souls murdered by the Nazi culture, brainwashed against
the Jews vilified by their society.

Perpetual, political anti-Semitism on Kristallnacht anniversary

"Throughout the Jewish world, commemorations are being held during this period of Kristallnacht, the Night of Broken Glass, which took place exactly 71 years ago. The murderous violence and destruction of that night, in which 100 Jews were killed, over 250 synagogues were destroyed, and tens of thousands of Jewish businesses vandalized, marked the beginning of the Holocaust."  -  See Walter Bingham, Israel National Radio show-host's article on Arutz 7

Daniel Goldhagen will speak at Museum of Tolerance on Kristallnacht
Monday, November 9, 2009 at 7:00pm Los Angeles Museum of Tolerance

Kristallnacht Commemoration - Night of Broken Glass
With keynote speaker Daniel Jonah Goldhagen author of the new book "Worse than War: Genocide, Eliminationism, and the Ongoing Assault on Humanity."
Special screening of excerpts from the new PBS documentary, based on his book.
Goldhagen is also the author of the #1 international bestseller, Hitler’s Willing Executioners. A former Associate Professor of Political Science and Social Studies at Harvard University, he is the son of Holocaust Survivor and retired Harvard Professor Erich Goldhagen.

Former U.S. Attorney, John Loftus, author of "The War against the Jews," will be speaking at Daytona Beach-area's Temple Beth-El in Ormond Beach on Tuesday 10 November at 7:30pm.  It is free and open to the public.

Journalist Ray Weiss writes in the News-Journal:
Mr. Loftus worked for U.S. Justice Department and began prosecuting and deporting Nazi war criminals.
Ultimately, he discovered that many former Nazis living in the United States were on the CIA payroll and it was being covered up by the American government -- something he revealed in a "60 Minutes" interview with Mike Wallace in 1982.
"The CIA didn't have a clue," he said in a telephone interview. "They were dumped here by the British, passed off as not really Nazis, but anti-Communist freedom fighters."
He said Kristallnacht really was a "fundraising scheme" created by the SS leadership in the Nazi party, many of whom were lawyers. All insurance money to repair the Jewish businesses was immediately seized by the Nazis.
"They blamed the Jews for starting it," Loftus said of Kristallnacht. "It was a huge windfall for the early Nazis. They were that calculating."
In his speech, Loftus said he will discuss Kristallnacht and the future of the western world, one that he sees as vulnerable as in the 1930s. He says that most Middle Eastern terrorists have roots in the Muslim Brotherhood, an organization founded in 1928 that admired and supported Adolph Hitler.
"To this day, Hamas still gives the Nazi salute," he said.

Mollified by Islamophobia guilt-mongers, Americans suffer another painful lesson on anniversary of Kahane and Rabin assassinations

To those who belittle Muslim hostility towards Jews as being anything less than a challenge to homeland   security ...

19 years (to the day) of America ignoring Muslim assassination of a Jewish leader as a threat to humanity - an American-Muslim soldier massacres gentile Americans - wounding 30, murdering 12.

In this shocking excerpt from "Inside 9/11," broadcast on National Geographic Channel about the rise of bin Laden and the al Qaeda global terror organization, the first victim of al Qaeda on U.S. soil was Jewish Defense League founder, Rabbi Meir Kahane.

This clip shows how his assassination in November 1990 is traced to bin Laden/al Qaeda's Muslim double-agent inside the U.S. military, allegedly protected by the CIA. The investigative prejudice against a vigilant Jew's murder precluded discoveries that could have prevented the 9/11 attacks on the World Trade Center in 1993, and possibly averted the work of al-Qaeda to kill about 3,000 Americans on 9/11/2001

The history of anti-Semitic persecution around the world justifies the need for a sovereign Jewish refuge - and despite the establishment of Israel, the threat endures.

Documentary- "Conflict: the Power of Propaganda," explores Arab media campaign to de-legitimize Israel

In the new film "Conflict: The Power of Propaganda," director Chris Atkins goes behind the headlines and past the media bias against Israel to present a fair and realistic picture of what is happening in the Islamic conflict to conquer Israel.

The fast-paced documentary exposes rampant Palestinian propaganda and challenges viewers to recognize the calculated deception - and its ties to both extremism and terrorism on a global scale. Executive producer Joe Amaral and his filmmakers go inside the world of the Palestinian media, documenting how Palestinian propaganda seeks to rob the Jewish people of their rich history in the Land of Israel. Alarming video evidence shows how school children are taught and encouraged to aspire to kill Jews and to become suicide bombers.

Delicatessen Nosh-talgia

(Pictured: The Hungry Cabbie, Famous Fat Dave, attempts to sneak-up-from-behind a pastrami sandwich at Harold's Famous NY Deli in Edison, New Jersey)

The Jewish Journal of Los Angeles this week published a cover-story about Toronto-raised author, David Sax, having singled-out L.A. as America's premiere deli city, and Langer's Deli as serving the best pastrami sandwich in the world. But Sax's book, Save the Deli, is neither the first nor definitive exploration of the Jewish delicatessen. Pre-dating it was, among others, San Francisco foodie L. John Harris', "The Deli Book" - excerpted below from his article "Noshtalgia for Pastrami" published in SF's "The Monthly":

I’m a pastrami man. When I go to a Jewish deli, that 100-year-old emporium of Eastern European comfort food, I order a pastrami on rye. Not only do I eat this classic and very fatty sandwich (without guilt), I study it.  This qualifies me as a “maven,” the Yiddish word for expert, or in my case, “obsessive-compulsive deli guy.”  I’m not the only deli maven around, to be sure. Just about every Jew ever born in an American city of any size considers himself or herself a deli maven with childhood memories of particular foods and favorite delis that were part of the fabric of their early lives...

While a Jewish deli must serve the requisite pastrami and corned beef sandwiches and all the other deli classics, it’s still not sufficient to bring in the crowds that delis need to succeed.  So what’s the other essential ingredient? According to Professor Ted Merwin, professor of Jewish Studies at Dickinson College in Pennsylvania (who has just completed a book on New York’s Jewish delicatessens) it’s the emotional draw of nostalgia and the historical function of the deli as a central meeting place: “A place for Jews to rest and refuel after shopping, meet potential mates, relax in a Jewish milieu, reconnect to childhood memories,” says Merwin.

Harris' Deli Book inspired a collaboration with S.F. documentary filmmaker Bill Chayes to produce Divine Food: 100 Years in the Deli Trade
When standing at the Deli counter, do you wonder what makes a good pastrami sandwich kosher? Our film offers a tell-all, behind the scenes look at the Biblically based kosher meat manufacturing process. The film focuses on the immigrant Oscherwitz family, manufacturers of Kosher deli products since the 1880's.

Through interviews, archival photos and film, the Oscherwitz story is told, along with a step-by-step examination of the koshering process. On location at the company plant with a side trip to a classic deli, the film captures the mouth-watering flavors and heart warming memories of the Jewish delicatessen. Divine Food is available on DVD.
The Jewish Channel produced their own news feature on N.Y.C. delis in 2007:

I do credit Save the Deli's publicist with raising awareness about the future of the Jewish Deli.  Special note must be reserved for the neighborhood Jewish deli's that serve as cultural (especially kosher) centers, and preserve our nosh-talgia!

Barry Rubin speech video from Boston: "How Western policies are heading for disaster in the Mid-East"

Solomonia filmed and posted this live presentation from Boston on 14 October:
This is video of the event I attended last Wednesday evening with Prof. Barry Rubin, Director of the Global Research for International Affairs (GLORIA) Center; editor of the Middle East Review of International Affairs (MERIA) Journal.
If you've been reading what Rubin has been writing, you know how indispensable he is, and his oral presentation is just as good as his written. I love a guy who can get up on stage and speak without notes, and that's what he does here. Audio quality should be passable. Here is the Question and Answer period following his speech.

Rubin has a realist's view of events and antidotes where the word "realist" actually means something. This is well worth it.

Jews complete 3-weeks of penance on Shemini Atzeret / Hoshana Rabah - exclusive video

Jews around the world observed Hoshana Rabbah on Friday, 9 Oct. The day is known as the day of the final sealing of judgment for the coming year, which began on Rosh Hashanah, the Jewish New Year, 3-weeks ago.

Prayer services at Los Angeles' Orthodox "Happy Minyan" were filled with pleas for forgiveness and blessing, as begun on Yom Kippur. Hoshana Rabbah marks the final day of the holiday of Sukkot, the Feast of the Tabernacles.

The modern day observance of the rituals of Hoshana Rabbah are reminiscent of the practices that existed in the times of the Holy Temple in Jerusalem. During Sukkot, the four species (citron and woven lulav) are taken in a circuit around the synagogue once daily. On Hoshana Rabbah, there are seven circuits.

The priests carried the palm branches or willows in their hands. The entire ceremony is to demonstrate rejoicing and gratitude for a blessed and fruitful year.

Five willow branches are beaten on the ground or other surface to symbolize the elimination of sin. This is also symbolic as a prayer for rain and success in agriculture. According to the Kabbalah, beating the ground with the five willow branches is done to "Sweeten the Five Severities". There is no blessing said for this ritual, but the Aramaic expression "chabit, chabit velah barich" is chanted. This happens to be the oldest known Jewish custom (or Minhag) in Orthodox Judaism. (Source Wikipedia)

Today marks the Jewish holiday of Shemini Atzeret - and tonight and Sunday, the celebration marking the completion of the annual cycle of temple-readings of the Torah - Simkhat Torah begins. Synagogues' Torahs are carried, kissed, and danced around the congregation (and sometimes overflowing into the streets).

The Torah's are scrolled back to the beginning - and the cycle of reading, worship, and study begins anew.

10,000 global Christians demonstrate solidarity with Israel - marching in Jerusalem's Sukkot parade

Thousands of Christians, along with Jews, marched in the annual Sukkot parade in Jerusalem Tuesday, despite the threat of Arab riots, protected by thousands of policemen. No incidents were reported along the parade route, although Arabs rioted in eastern Jerusalem. (Video courtesy Yerushalmit)

Christians interviewed by Israel National News TV all re-iterated their love Israel. “Praise the L-rd and thank the Israeli people for all they do; we love them," said one man with a distinct Southern drawl.

“We want you to know we are standing with you; we bless you and love you,” said another. One marcher from Europe commented, “I come from Austria and we want to show our solidarity for Israel.”

Several Englishwomen draped an American flag over their entire bodies during the march from the area of the Knesset to the Old City, which the Palestinian Authority is demanding as the capital of a new Arab country within Israel’s current borders.

One delegation beat drums for Israel while Asians sang the Hebrew song Shalom Aleichem. Other Christians wore T-shirts stating, “Prepare the Way for the King of Glory,” a proclamation that is typical of those that worry rabbis.

Christian fundamentalists’ support of a Jewish presence in all of Judea and Samaria often is met with skepticism by Jewish activists and rabbis, who fear that their real aim is to convert Jews.

The annual Sukkot march is organized by the International Christian Embassy in Jerusalem and marks the Biblical passages read in synagogues on Sukkot, which state that all nations will gather in Jerusalem.

The ICEJ promotional material sent to prospective participants in the 2009 event says, "We believe that celebrating the Feast each year honors the Lord in anticipation of the fulfillment of the words spoken by Zechariah (14:16) when 'the nations... shall come up from year to year to worship the King, the Lord of hosts, and to keep the Feast of Tabernacles."

Despite the Chief Rabbinate's opposition, Chief Rabbi of Efrat Shlomo Riskin, a former American, participated in events sponsored by the Christians. (Source: Israel National News, story by Tzvi ben Gedalyahu, video by Yoni Kempinski).

Video: Israel Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu speech to U.N. on Sept 24th rips UN for Ahmadinejad "disgrace", Goldstone Report

"The U.N.'s most urgent challenge is to prevent Tehran tyrants from acquiring nuclear weapons"
In an impassioned speech to the UN General Assembly Thursday, Sept 24, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said the United Nations' most important mission today is to prevent "the tyrants of Tehran" from acquiring nuclear weapons, because the marriage of religious fanaticism and weapons of mass destruction would endanger the world. Holding up the minutes of the Nazi leaders' 1942, decision to annihilate the Jewish people, Netanyahu said the man who called the Holocaust a lie also pledges to wipe out the state of the Jewish people, making a mockery of the UN Charter.

His statement, "We ask the Palestinians to recognize the nation-state of the Jewish people just as we recognize the Palestinian wish for a home of their own," won applause in the chamber. Netanyahu went on to say he believes the two peoples can live side by side in peace, prosperity and dignity, if there is security. Therefore the Palestinian state must be "effectively demilitarized."

The prime minister slammed the UN report which held Israel guilty of war crimes in its Gaza operation last January, accusing its authors of "equating terrorists and their victims." The world body never once condemned Hamas' eight-year rocket offensive against the Israeli population.

Israel must be sure the world body rejects this biased report before embarking on peace talks with the Palestinians, he said. "We must be sure the West Bank will never be another Gaza."

Israel wants peace and believes it is possible with good will and hard work, so long as "the world body fights terrorist forces and their backers and does not accommodate them."  (source DebkaFile)

The Jerusalem Post: Prime Minister Netanyahu rips UN for Ahmadinejad 'disgrace,' Goldstone report"
What a travesty!" Netanyahu said of the Goldstone Report. "The biased and unjust report provided a clear-cut test to all governments - will you stand with Israel or with the terrorists? We must know the answer to that question now - not later. If Israel is asked to take more risks for peace we must know today that you will stand with us tomorrow," said Netanyahu. "We can take further risks for peace only if we have confidence that we can defend ourselves."
The prime minister stressed that "All of Israel wants peace," noting that Israel made peace with Egypt and Jordan, and vowing that "If the Palestinians truly want peace, we will make peace. But we want a defensible peace, permanent peace."

"We ask the Palestinians to say yes to a Jewish state - as simple, as clear, as elementary as that. We are not foreign conquerors in the land of Israel. We are not strangers to this land - this is our homeland, but as deeply connected as we are to this place, we recognize that the Palestinians also live here and they want a home, we want to live side by side in peace, prosperity and dignity."

Documentary proves need to support effective defenders of Israel as the State of the Jewish People

Joo-Tube brings you this video news-essay - hosted by San Francisco Newstalk radio host, John Rothman, courtesy of producer SF Zionist.  It reveals how leftist, anti-Zionist groups (including the Boycott Israeli goods initiators- Jewish Voice for Peace, and the American Friends Service Committee - which hosted a reception for Iranian President Ahmadinejad) organized an anti-Zionist-biased screening of the film, "Rachel," which canonizes International Solidarity Movement martyr, Rachel Corrie, at the San Francisco Jewish Film Festival. The mother of Rachel Corrie appeared, to draw attendance to the event, at which new memberships to the activist groups was solicited from among the attendees.

The San Francisco Jewish Federation was a primary underwriter of the event - which was was co-sponsored by the anti-Zionist groups. But when appealed to to pre-empt this event, the S.F. Federation's solution was to recommend that an opposing viewpoint be presented briefly, by a single, pro-Israel critic, Dr. Michael Harris of the San Francisco Voice for Israel (the video of his full-remarks follows Part 2).

This news-essay highlights the results of the S.F. Federation's weak solution, including the leftists' efforts to shout-down Dr. Harris, the only pro-Israel speaker, interuptions which included Nazi salutes and shouts of "Sieg Heil!, and the Boycott Israel campaigns which ensued - emboldened and strengthened.

Unrealized dreams: Israel mourns pilot Assaf Ramon, 21, buried alongside his father- astronaut Ilan Ramon

"A nation grieves" by Amir Mizroch in JPost.com
Assaf was the eldest son of Ilan Ramon, Israel's first astronaut. Ilan, and Assaf after him, represented our finest, our "best of the best."
As the youngest member of the squadron that carried out the daring bombing raid on Saddam's Osirak nuclear reactor in 1981, Ilan Ramon was more than just an ace pilot. He was what many young men, then and now, aspire to be. To many, inside and outside the country, he was the manifestation of the new Jewish warrior, determined never to let evil men attain weapons that could annihilate us.
When Ramon, son of a Holocaust survivor, took an artifact from the Theresienstadt ghetto with him into space, Jewish hearts all over the world filled with pride.
"I was born in Israel and I'm kind of the proof for them, and for the whole Israeli people, that whatever we fought for and we've been going through in the last century (or maybe in the last two thousand years), is becoming true," he said. ...
See, we said to each other, the dream is still alive. The son is taking his father's place. He could take us all the way to the top again, and who knows, maybe he'll go into space, and the whole world will hear our music again. Assaf fit so naturally into the narrative we had written for him.
So when rumors started spreading that the pilot killed in a training crash on Sunday morning was Assaf Ramon, our first reaction was one of adamant disbelief. Surely not. Not Assaf Ramon. Not again.

Jerusalem merchant provides sagacious advice to global Jews about anti-Semitism (& intermarriage)

Jerusalem market vendor, Eitan Boudkov, related to me how resurgent anti-Semitism in Europe is motivating badly-needed Jews out of the diaspora to return to keep Israel strong and secure.

The gift-shop owner reminds unmarried Jews to preserve their heritage by selecting mates within the faith.

Record-level, global anti-Semitism - is there some prophetic significance?

Hate-crime statistics proves Islamophobia - a red-herring distraction from actual problem from anti-Semitism.

Jews were the top religious targets of hate-crimes in New York state last year, accounting for 84% of the reported incidents.

Muslims experienced only 2 property crimes (5% of the total) and 6 personal crimes (4% of total) while Jews experienced 92 property crimes and 129 personal crimes.  (Hat-tip The Vicious Babushka

Muslim-inspired blood-libels about Israel generate record-level, Gentile anti-Semitism, which forces once-patriotic, Diaspora Jews to emigrate to imperiled Israel, a small refuge about to be fed to the lions at the UN.

Ignoring Palestinian savagery - Britain's Sky News correspondent exposes journalism's hypocrisy

Give Hamas A Rocket by Tim Marshall, SKY News, UK.  August 26, 2009
Thirty Palestinians killed. Women and children caught in the crossfire. Missiles fired at a Mosque. Muslim prisoners 'executed' in cold blood. A massacre. Media restrictions.
A familiar tale? Indeed. International outrage and demonstrations in the streets of London? Nope.
And why might that be? Why it's simple. The Palestinians were killed by Palestinians and, it would appear from the lack of reaction that in those circumstances their lives are cheap, but when they are killed by Israelis it is an outrage.
On August 15th Hamas militiamen attacked a Mosque in Rafah in the Gaza Strip. Inside were extremists from the Jund Ansar Allah group (JAA). JAA were so extreme they viewed Hamas almost as liberals.
They had declared Gaza an Islamic state and challenged Hamas to enter the Mosque. 'No problem' said Hamas.
In the assault Hamas desecrated holy ground, firing rocket and after rocket at the Mosque, some hit surrounding houses. It would be reasonable to assume that at least one Holy Koran may have been damaged.
After they took the building they rounded up the survivors. Mobile phone footage shows what appears to be Hamas men 'executing' some of them.
It is not hard evidence, but local reporters say that is what happened, and the footage is certainly of the aftermath of the attack. Audio material has Hamas commanders ordering the killings.
I put 'executed' in quotation marks as in this context, ie, the killing of someone, it is a legal term. But in the context of what Hamas did, perhaps it should be substituted for murdered.
And where is the outrage about these murders. The marches, the petitions, the calls for a boycott, the conspiracy theory of a war against Muslims, ad infinitum? I hear just the wind blowing across the freshly dug graves. Because unless the Israelis kill them, people don't care.

Gov. Mike Huckabee tours Samarian communities; challenges Obama over Israel

As part of his visit to Israel, Former Governor of Arkansas Mike Huckabee visited the Samarian communities.

Gov. Huckabee remarked that his current visit “has affirmed deep in my heart that this (Israel) is a very, very special land.”

“From the time that I first saw it in 1973… I continue to be amazed at places that I remember at one time as being desolate, now producing food an commerce and families… the dry bones have come alive!”

He commented,“I thought it was very telling that when we got to the borders of Nablus we couldn’t go in because I was with Jewish people couldn’t go there. (But) Arab people can go to the Jewish parts of Jerusalem, and the Jewish parts of Israel, but the Jewish people could not go there."

Huckabee made the comparison between the segregation of Jews and Arabs and racial segregation in the United States in a radio interview with Yishai Fleisher as well. While references to racism are usually levelled at Israel by those who compare it to the racist Apartheid state, Huckabee sees Jews as the ones who are being discriminated against.

More than 1,000 Israelis protest Obama's pressure agents, George Mitchell & Defense Sec'y Gates, outside U.S. consulate in Jerusalem

Aaron Klein reports for World News Daily
President Obama's policies against Jewish construction in eastern Jerusalem and the strategic West Bank were slammed as "racist" today by participants in a rally drawing about 2,000 Israelis in front of the U.S. consulate in Jerusalem.

Speaking at the rally, Rabbi Eliezer Waldman, who heads the prestigious "Nir" Torah seminary in the West Bank city of Kiryat Arba, called Obama a "racist."

"How dare he tell the Jews where they can or can't live! The era when Jews were banned from living in different places has ended," Waldman exclaimed.

Historically, there was never any separation between eastern and western Jerusalem. The terminology came after Jordan occupied the eastern section of the city, including the Temple Mount, from 1947 until it used the territory to attack the Jewish state in 1967. Israel reunited Jerusalem when it won the 1967 Six Day War.
